Owners have drawn tags every year and usually get 4 elk, 4 deer, a bear and turkey, and antelope (preference points).
The tags are generally filled each year as well, with many trophy elk and deer and antelope, the animals have been taken right on the 160 acres or within a mile or 2 of the house so hunting is phenomenal.
There is a roadless area of 64,000 acres lying to the south of the property that because of the terrain, is basically, used only by the owners at Antero Mountain Ranch.
The elk herd migrate from this area and Raspberry mountain into the National forest below, through the 160 acre property.
Because of the elevation of Antero Mountain and ranch the the terrain, there are many viewing vantage points where one can sit and scan the whole area below to spot/scout out the herds of animals and then hunt from there.
Roads below allow ATVs and trucks for hunting there as well.
The owners have rarely if any time seen a hunter behind their property, because most do not want to walk to get to the great hunting.
There is a herd of over 200 elk that winter in the pasture/hay fields below Antero
plus the antelope hang out in the BLM below the property and in the national forest .

THE HISTORY

John and Charles Eddy bought the property, now known as Antero Mountain Ranch, in 1887 from John Pledger, who originally homesteaded the property in 1886.  The brothers would bring cattle from their ranch in New Mexico (Eddy County, New Mexico is named for them) north to Colorado to sell to the miners and move what was left of the herd to another ranch they owned in South Park, Colorado.  The Eddy Brothers original cabin continues to weather time and may be found about a quarter mile off the property line.
